Marc E. Hankin

Marc E. Hankin, Esq., brings more than 36 years of legal experience in advising owners and managers of all sized businesses on how best to protect valuable technology and other creative works, through patent prosecution, copyright registration, trademark registration, licensing agreements, and related means. A former Partner at several major law firms, Marc launched Hankin Patent Law, APC more than 20 years ago to provide his clients with big-firm quality and small-firm service.

 

Marc Hankin is a Registered Patent Attorney with a strong and broad science background who has had extensive involvement in all aspects of licensing and litigation, and he litigates in all areas of intellectual property law, including patent, trademark, and copyright infringements, as well as domain name disputes, thefts of trade secrets, and other forms of unfair competition. Marc has been the lead lawyer in a wide variety of more than 650 business litigation cases and intellectual property disputes for companies and educational institutions ranging in size from solo inventors and start-ups through the top of the Fortune 500, and every size in between. Marc has testified at Trial and Depositions almost two dozen times as a retained Expert Witness.

 

Marc frequently ranks high in regional, national, and international surveys, and every year from 2007 to 2024 has been selected as a Southern California Super Lawyer®, placing him in the top 5% of Intellectual Property attorneys in the view of his peers and competitor attorneys.

 

Marc spent more than nine years representing several International Bar Associations as the only U.S. Patent Attorney involved from start to finish in the negotiations at The Hague Conference on Private International Law, resulting in a new International Treaty on Choice of Courts Agreements for use in international litigation, including Intellectual Property disputes.

 

After law school, Marc clerked for then-Chief Judge Charles L. Brieant, Jr. of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York. Marc is admitted to the State and Federal Bars of California and New Jersey as well as about a dozen Federal District and Appellate Courts around the U.S.A.

Kevin E. Schraven

Kevin Schraven is the Managing Partner, resident in Orange County, and a Registered Patent Attorney.  Kevin has regularly been selected as a Super Lawyer ® and Rising Star ® for 2010 – 2024, placing him in the top 2.5% of Intellectual Property Attorneys in Southern California.

 

His practice areas include Patent Prosecution, which allows him to do the work that he loves, writing patent applications and helping inventors obtain patent protection on their inventions.  Kevin’s practice also includes Opinion Writing, Trademark Registration, and other areas of Intellectual Property Law.

 

Kevin has an extensive background in laboratory services, operations management, and food service management. He previously served as Senior Manager of regulatory compliance, logistics, safety, facilities, and security departments of a clinical chemistry laboratory.  In that capacity he coordinated regulatory inspections, developed and conducted employee training and safety programs, and reported directly to General Counsel on environmental compliance.  Prior to that, in 1995, Kevin earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biochemistry at UCLA, where he also managed concession services at all UCLA home sporting events, the Los Angeles Open Tennis Tournament, the Los Angeles Times Festival of Books, and many large special events.

 

During law school, Kevin held legal extern positions with Central District U.S. District Judge Gary A. Feess and California/OSHA.  In Spring 2007, as a member of Loyola’s Giles Sutherland Rich Intellectual Property Moot Court Team, Kevin went to the Finals of the South Regional and won Best Appellant Brief, Best Appellee Brief, and Best Oral Advocate, and participated at the National Finals competition.

Anooj Patel

Anooj Patel began his career at Hankin Patent Law, APC as a Registered Patent Agent in 2012 while still in law school and joined the firm full-time in 2014. Anooj’s primary practice area is Patent Prosecution, which allows him to do the work that he enjoys, which is learning new technology, drafting patents, and helping inventors obtain patent protection on their new inventions.  He also assists with Intellectual Property Litigation.

Anooj possesses an extensive background in biochemistry-based research, with a focus on Crystallography and Nuclear Magnetic Resonance technologies. He previously worked as a Biochemistry Researcher for several years at a National Institute of Sciences Laboratory at UCLA and, in that capacity, he helped research the Telomerase Holoenzyme, including the three dimensional structure and function of its various RNA, DNA, and Protein components across several species.

Elodie Bardon

Elodie Bardon grew up in the South of France and is admitted to the Bar as an attorney both in France and throughout California.  Elodie joined HPL law in 2022, where she practices Intellectual Property Litigation and Intellectual Property Licensing. Prior to that, she began her career at August Debouzy, one of the biggest business law firms in France, as a litigation associate in the Patent Department.  Elodie has extensive experience in patent litigation, involving international and complex patent cases.

 

Elodie obtained her Master’s Degree, specializing in European and International Intellectual Property Law, from the Center for International Intellectual Property Studies (CEIPI) in 2017. She most recently graduated with an LL.M. in Media, Entertainment, and Technology Law from UCLA Law in 2022.

 

Elodie has performed Artistic (“synchronized”) swimming for the past twenty (20) years. After swimming in the Elite French Championship, Elodie joined UCLA’s Artistic Swimming Club in 2021.

 

Elodie also enjoys running, scuba diving, surfing, and hiking.
